ABOUT THE NETWORK
I decided to start with
internet radio, because it made the most sense. It was the quickest, most economical way to get on the air
on this large a scale. Also, I've
always had a soft spot for radio.
It's the original broadcast medium. It's where everything started, and it was invented by a
fellow Italian, Guglielmo Marconi.
It's where I got my start, in college, at a tiny little 100 watt station
in the sticks of northern NJ.
While a far cry from Marconi's attic, it's ancient, compared to
today. I'll never forget this PSA
I used to play. It was James Earl
Jones, talking about the radio. He
said, “The radio is more than news, more than music more than sports. It's the soundtrack of our
memories. It touches all our
lives. Life wouldn't be the same
without it.” I have it on cassette
somewhere, I'll have to dig it up and put it online one of these days.
It's not like that out there,
anymore. The corporate stations
have turned conventional radio into a wasteland of repetitively churned out
junk, with more commercials and mindless chatter than real content. Thanks to the internet, old style radio
is enjoying a bit of resurgence.
Blog Talk Radio provides the perfect platform for broadcasters like
me. Anyone, anywhere, with just a
telephone and a computer, has the ability to host a live, Internet Radio show.
It's a perfect first step towards live, 24/7 content.
We foster a cooperative environment
here and still live by the school-yard axiom of “you watch my back, I'll watch
yours.”
Why us, why now?
We don't want to hear some
rich guy complaining about how hard he has it because he only made 4 billion last year
instead of 5, so he has to lay off 5000 employees and ship their jobs
overseas. I don't need some
talking head, that works for said rich guy, on TV or radio telling me it's my
fault that I can't get a job that pays a living wage, because I have the
audacity to ask for a job that pays a living wage. Or, better yet, because I voted for the wrong guy. I don't care about them and they sure
as hell don't care about me. They
don't care about any of us, just our money. That's really the only thing they want from any of us.
There comes a time where
fighting the good fight feels like a losing battle and you just have to decide
if it's worth fighting for. That's
when you make a decision, keep going the way you're going or change
things. And that's what we decided
to do, change things. Because we
knew fighting the good fight and doing everything right was never going to get
us what we wanted in the long run.
We were always going to be slaves to the people at the top, so we
decided to get out and do our own thing... and here we are.
